Old Hickory Steakhouse at the Gaylord provided a lovely solo dining experience. Seating by the bar was comfortable, allowing me to enjoy my meal at my own pace.
The crabcake appetizer and kale salad were both fresh and flavorful, reflecting the restaurant's commitment to quality. Especially for a hotel restaurant. I thought it was a really nice experience.
The dinner was nice, food was decent. Waiter definitely experienced and knowledgeable. Feel pretty much rushed to finished the meal and can’t really enjoy the time. Feel the table turning rate is on a dashboard somewhere.
This place is over price I mean I don’t mine paying if it’s worth it. But the 8 oz fillet was good but not $75 good and that does not include sides those you have to buy separate which at around $14 each so expect to spend at least $100 on your meal. Honestly I’ve had better tasting and filling fillet meals for half that amount.
I was in the area visiting and decided to try this restaurant. First impressions were very impressive. The design and decor is very swanky and has a retro design. There is ample seating, bar and lounge areas to accommodate nearly anyone’s wants while also quite comfortable. They have a nicely stocked bar of course with top shelf liquors. As part of my meal, I was offered bread and butter. The bread is somewhat orange so I asked about the ingredients which include sun dried tomatoes. The honey in the honey butter is sourced from their own beehive on the roof of the restaurant, very interesting. Both the bread and butter is very good and worth trying. Due to pricing, I ordered a smaller filet mignon but it was very tender, like warm butter and flavorful. I sat in the bar area and service was great. There were multiple wait staff making sure customers were happy. Certainly worth a visit if you’re looking for a different place and want to splurge for a special occasion!
Zero stars. Overpriced, subpar quality, horrendous service throughout our dinner. We got better service ordering at a McDonald's kiosk than at this supposed "high end" steakhouse. Things started off on bad foot immediately when we arrived. We had a reservation and arrived 5 minutes before it. We were seated in a waiting area while the table was being "prepared". Eventually we were escorted to our table few minutes past 5. As we walked to the rear of the restaurant we passed dozens of empty tables. Our reservation was made weeks in advance yet at 5pm our table wasn't ready but dozens of other tables were? Makes zero sense.
This place "prides" itself in their drink selection yet they had ZERO beer on draft, while their menu lists 5 draft choices none of which were available. The waiter straight up said we don't have any beer on draft. Then why is it on your menu?
I ordered the duck breast medium rare but it was served well done. Any chef will know duck breast is never served overcooked. Then there was the issue with our bill. We asked to split it evenly but it was split unevenly. One check was for 50% of the total the other was for the full amount of the dinner (100%). When we asked for it to be corrected it was fixed but a hold for the full amount remained on my card for THREE business days before being released. That is just sheer incompetence by someone who can't do basic math. Additionally the waiter should've said the incorrect charge will appear but drop off eventually. You inconvenienced a customer and did nothing to remedy or even apologize for the mistake.
Avoid.
This is truly a beautiful restaurant. Old Hickory is right inside the Gaylord hotel on the 1st floor near check-in. Parking can be tricky since garage parking brings you in on the 2nd floor near the conference rooms. They just recently started serving bunch which is offered from 11:30 to 3pm (even though the website has not been updated). It is a "fixed" ish menu. For $65 you start with a family style board, that has pastries, fruit, a selection of cheeses, and carb salad along with oysters. You then pick your choice of a brunch entree before finishing with a selection of desserts. The bottomless mimosas is an additional $30. Overall the dining experience was okay. The two family style portions of the meal were excellent but the entrees themselves were lackluster nothing was seasoned very well and the pancakes were bland and tasted like box mix. Overall it was more hits than misses! That reason alone makes it worth grabbing your family and friends and heading to the Gaylord for a fun weekend brunch.
The food was amazing. My wife and I absolutely loved it! The absolute star of the show was our wait staff, Happy from Nigeria. That guy is exceptional. I felt like we made a lifelong friend in an hour. He really made us feel special! We spoke to the manager, he also seemed like a really great guy. During our very brief wait (we were early, no problem) and even after we finished we enjoyed some of the common areas which looked great after the remodel. Our only small complaint was that we were seated really close to another couple. They were super friendly but it was still loud, and our convo I'm sure was loud for them as well. I had asked for the romantic riverside seating, which you charge extra for, understandable. The problem was it was packaged with a wine and a dessert that would not have been our choices, we're pretty picky about that stuff. Maybe you could offer another package with just the romantic view? Would have taken that in a heartbeat. Or maybe sell the same package but let the diners choose the desert and wine? Anyway, we've worked it into our rotation and we will definitely be coming back twice a year or so. Thank you for such a good time! (The photos are of the smoked shrimp cocktail, super delish!)
Visited this place a week before Christmas. Possibly the worst experience I've had at a time dining establishment. Waiter was a nice man but apparently the other waiters called out this day. You could tell the food was sitting at the hot plate for a long time. Drinks took about an hour to receive. Bar was literally 15 feet away from our table. This is a management issue. Not once did the manager visit us and explain what was going on. Second time visiting. Will never return. Almost $1000 bill and neighborhood service and food is better.
